The Set Up
Building a drop shadow box; This box is constructed of standard wood bought at a lumber yard. This one has a 3'x3' shooting surface about 3' off the ground. The arm holding the central light is 6'. The overhang is foam core and can be adjusted up and down to change the lighting. The shooting surface is medium grey art paper attached to the top back of the box to create a ramp; this creates the "drop shadow" gradient effect in your pictures background. There are 3 Photo flood light bulbs. The center one is 500 watts. The two side ones are 250 watts each and clipped onto music stands. The light is diffused by opaque plastic sheets clipped over the lamps. The camera is positioned in front of the shooting surface on an adjustable tripod.
